I hope in few weeks we won't have to regret the 101-120 W in Memphis.
That gave Sixers (27-53, .338) a small edge over "competitors" Detroit, GS etc etc.
Every ping pong ball counts...
It was a weird game, with plenty of highlight plays and interesting numbers.
THREE ANSWERS
1) No, I wasn't happy at all with the W, despite the enjoyable plays, and I found myself cursing our guys for every basket, three, steal... pretty sad
2) Yes, Memphis unfortunately gave us a great help, by forgetting to play any defense in the second half.
With Gasol out and Thabeet having foul troubles (his 4th came after only one minute in the third), they didn't have any interiore presence.
Also, we were hitting outside shots at a crazy rate, the 14 threes (on 24 attempts) are a season high...
3) No, Sixers simply couldn't miss. 29/47 from the floor in the second half (61%), 6/12 from behind the arc.
THREE QUESTIONS
1) You know what's the problem with the extra small lineups? That once in a while they work, so stupid coaches think they are ok and use them for extended minutes, while they should now.
You can play Williams-Green-Meeks-Carney-Speights to start the fourth against the Grizzlies in a meaningless game, win it and think you are a genius, though (more after the jump)2) Who's Sixers' power forward that managed to grab a whoppin' ONE defensive rebound in 20 minutes? Hint: he is a former dukie, signed a pretty fat contract two years ago, and is continuing in his "hot" streak, averaging 4.2 rebounds in the last 15 games....
3) What's with the banked in three pointers to close the first two quarters? Pretty amazing shots by Mayo and mainly Conley, than threw a prayer from midcourt after a steal just before the halftime buzzer, to make it 58-51.
REASONS
Why we won the game
Torrid, insane outside shooting: at a point in the third we were 11/18 from three. Speights dropping twenty-two in the second half, after being held scoreless the first (!).
Sixers went on a 23-5 run in the third and had a season high in bench points, also, with 69 !!
To be optimistic
Lou Williams's nine dimes are a career high.
To be worried
Will this useless W cost us a top pick ??
Monday is Fan appreciation night, Sixers' last home game, against the Heat.
